Reliable gear, as usual

I ordered a new pair of walking trousers and a few packs of thermal socks. Everything arrived quickly, about 4 days to my door, just like my last few orders. The quality is consistent, always good stuff. This is why I keep coming back, can't beat the reliability.

Good tent, slow shipping

I bought the 2 person tent for a camping trip. The tent itself is solid, easy to set up, and held up well in some rain. I was happy with the quality for the price. My only gripe was the shipping; it took almost 8 days to get here in California. Not a huge deal since I ordered early, but something to keep in mind if you need gear fast. Overall, a decent experience.

Fair price for a good jacket

I was looking for a waterproof jacket that wouldn't break the bank and saw Highlander Outdoor had a sale. I got a softshell jacket and a beanie. The jacket fits well and seems durable enough for what I need. I got about 25% off the jacket, which made it a good deal. Shipping was free because my order was over fifty, so that helped with the budget. Everything came in one piece and looked like the pictures. I'm happy with the value for my money on this first purchase.

Just received my Highlander Outdoor order (a couple of dry bags and a hydration bladder) and the dry bags seem a bit thinner than I expected. Are their dry bags generally durable for regular use?

G GauriK 5 days ago ✓ Best Answer
I've had a set of their lightweight dry bags for about two years now. They're definitely not heavy-duty, but for keeping clothes and electronics dry inside a rucksack, they've been perfectly fine. No leaks or tears yet, even with a fair bit of use. Just don't expect them to survive being dragged over rocks.
10
G GauriK 5 days ago
Yeah, for internal organisation and general water protection, they're great for the price. I wouldn't trust them for submersion though.
6
W WaterproofWanderer 5 days ago
Okay, that's reassuring. I mostly need them for internal packing, not external abuse. Thanks!

C CombatCamper 5 days ago
I have one of their heavier-duty ones (the olive green tactical-looking one) and that thing is a tank. So maybe it depends on the specific model. The lighter ones are more about weight saving.
1
W WaterproofWanderer 5 days ago
Mine are the bright coloured ones, so probably the lighter variety. Good to know there's a tougher option.
2
R RiverRat 5 days ago
Used their 10L dry bag for kayaking, and it held up well for a few trips. It did get a small abrasion mark but no breach. I think they're good value for money if you're not expecting bombproof durability.

W WaterproofWanderer 5 days ago
Sounds like they're good for general use then. Thanks everyone!

Considering the Highlander Outdoor Kestral 2 sleeping bag. It's a 2-season bag, but I'm wondering if it'll be warm enough for early spring camping in the Himalayas (around 5-10 degrees Celsius at night).

H HimalayanHiker 5 days ago ✓ Best Answer
A 2-season bag is usually rated for summer and mild autumn, typically down to around 5-10°C comfort. For early spring in the Himalayas, especially if you're above 2000m, it can drop below that, closer to 0°C or even into negatives. You'd probably be better off with a 3-season bag or at least a good liner with the Kestral 2.
19
H HimalayanHiker 5 days ago
Yeah, a decent fleece or silk liner can add a few degrees of warmth. But still, a 3-season is safer for peace of mind.
7
M MountainMan 5 days ago
That's what I was afraid of. Good point about the liner, might be a cheaper solution than a new bag.
7
P PankajS 5 days ago
I used a similar 2-season bag in Uttarakhand in March, and I was definitely chilly some nights. Had to sleep in all my clothes. It's doable, but not comfortable. Invest in a warmer bag if you can.
11
M MountainMan 5 days ago
Thanks for sharing your experience, Pankaj. Comfort is key.
2
A AdventureSeeker 5 days ago
Maybe look at their 'Trekker' range, those are usually a bit more robust for colder conditions. Kestral is more for general camping.
4
M MountainMan 5 days ago
I'll check out the Trekker range. Thanks for the tip!

Anyone know if Highlander Outdoor still offers a military discount? I thought I saw something about it but can't find it on their site now.

D DeepakG 2 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
Yes, they definitely do! I used it last month for some combat trousers. You usually have to verify through a third-party service or sometimes email them directly with proof of service. Check their 'Discounts' or 'About Us' page links in the footer, it's usually there.
6
S SoldierBoy 2 weeks ago
Ah, okay! I was looking in the wrong place. Thanks, I'll check the footer.
5
A AmitM 2 weeks ago
Yeah, confirmed. My brother used his last year for a new tactical pack. It's usually a pretty decent percentage off too!
5
S SoldierBoy 2 weeks ago
Awesome, good to hear it's still active. Thanks!
6
R RiaS 2 weeks ago
I think it's often handled through Blue Light Card or similar services if you're in the UK. Not sure how it works for other countries, but they usually have a section for armed forces.
10
S SoldierBoy 2 weeks ago
I'm in India, so Blue Light Card won't apply. I'll check their direct verification process.

Thinking of buying the Highlander Outdoor Base Layer set for a winter trek. How do their jacket sizes run? I usually wear a Large.

M MehulP 6 days ago ✓ Best Answer
I've found their sizing to be pretty true to size for jackets and base layers. I'm usually a Medium and their Medium fits me well, not too tight or too baggy. But for base layers, if you like a really snug fit, you *might* consider sizing down, but Large should be fine.
5
T TrekkerAdi 6 days ago
Good to know, thanks! I prefer a standard fit, so Large it is then.
0
D DishaR 6 days ago
Their waterproof jackets tend to be a bit more generous to allow for layers underneath. But base layers are generally more fitted. Best to check the size chart with your measurements if you're unsure.
0
T TrekkerAdi 6 days ago
Yeah, I'll double-check the chart too. Just wanted some real-world feedback.
0
V VivekG 6 days ago
I bought a fleece from them and found it slightly on the smaller side compared to other brands. If you're on the border between L and XL, maybe size up for comfort.

T TrekkerAdi 6 days ago
Conflicting advice! Haha. I'm a solid Large, so hopefully it works out. Thanks!

My Highlander Outdoor order for a new sleeping bag and mat has been stuck in 'processing' for 3 days. Anyone else had long delivery times recently?

A ArjunK 3 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
My last order for a jacket took almost a week to even ship. Then another 3 days for delivery. I think it depends on stock levels and what warehouse it's coming from. They usually get there eventually.
5
A ArjunK 3 weeks ago
Yeah, it's not Amazon fast, that's for sure. But their gear is good for the price.
4
R Rahul87 3 weeks ago
A week to ship? That's a bit much when you need stuff for a trip. Guess I'll wait it out.
2
P PoojaR 3 weeks ago
Sometimes if you order multiple items, they wait for everything to be ready before shipping. Could be that one of your items is holding it up.
12
R Rahul87 3 weeks ago
That's a good point, I ordered two things. Thanks, Pooja.

M MeeraD 3 weeks ago
I ordered some walking poles last week and they arrived in 5 days. That included the weekend though. Maybe give them another day or two before contacting support?

R Rahul87 3 weeks ago
Hmm, okay. Mine was placed on Monday. Still, good to know it generally arrives.

Just ordered a new Highlander Outdoor rucksack, hoping it's actually waterproof for my upcoming trek. Anyone got experience with their rucksacks in proper rain?

A AnjaliK 4 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
I have the Highlander Hawk 50L. Used it in a torrential downpour in the Western Ghats last monsoon. Everything inside stayed dry, but I did use a rain cover over it just in case. The fabric itself held up well though.
8
R RohitM 4 weeks ago
Good to know! I ordered the Forces 44L, so hoping for similar results. Did you treat it with anything?
5
A AnjaliK 4 weeks ago
Nah, didn't treat it. Just relied on the built-in water resistance and the cover. I think most of their rucksacks are pretty decent on that front.
6
P PriyaS 4 weeks ago
I had a smaller daypack from them, and it was 'water-resistant' not truly waterproof. My phone got a bit damp in a light drizzle. Always use a dry bag inside for electronics, just to be safe.
12
R RohitM 4 weeks ago
Yeah, I always use dry bags for essentials. Just hoping the main compartment holds up for clothes and sleeping bag.
4
G Gaurav88 4 weeks ago
Mine held up well for a week-long hike in Himachal. No issues with water getting in, even without an extra cover for light rain. For heavy stuff, a cover is always a good idea though.

R RohitM 4 weeks ago
Thanks for the feedback, Gaurav! Feeling a bit more confident now.

Thinking of getting a new 2-person tent from Highlander Outdoor for some wild camping trips. Are their tents generally good for that, especially the lighter models?

V VikramP 3 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
I have the Blackthorn 2, it's pretty good for wild camping. Lightweight enough for backpacking and surprisingly sturdy in wind. Had it up on some exposed peaks in Scotland and it didn't let me down. Just make sure to properly peg it out.
9
K KiranJ 3 weeks ago
Oh, that's the one I was looking at! How's the packed size?
4
V VikramP 3 weeks ago
It's decent, fits easily into my 60L rucksack. Not ultra-compact like some of the super expensive ones, but very manageable for the price point.
8
D Deepak77 3 weeks ago
I found the pegs a bit flimsy on my older Highlander tent, so I always swap them out for stronger ones. Otherwise, the fabric and poles have been reliable for occasional wild camps.
6
K KiranJ 3 weeks ago
Good tip about the pegs, I'll keep that in mind.
2
S SnehaR 3 weeks ago
Wild camping in India can be quite harsh. For monsoon or very high altitudes, I'd probably go for something a bit more robust, but for general use in decent weather, Highlander tents are usually fine. They offer good value.
12
K KiranJ 3 weeks ago
Yeah, mostly for moderate conditions for now. Thanks!

Just got their newsletter sign-up discount code but it's not working at checkout. Anyone else had issues with Highlander Outdoor voucher codes?

N NikhilS 2 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
Sometimes they're case-sensitive, or you might have a space before/after the code. Also, check if there's a minimum spend requirement or if it's for first-time orders only. I had a similar problem once and it was because I already bought from them before.
7
B BargainHunter 2 weeks ago
Yeah, I checked case and spaces. It's my first order with them. No minimum spend mentioned. So frustrating!
4
N NikhilS 2 weeks ago
Maybe try incognito mode in your browser? Sometimes cookies mess with it.
2
S SwatiG 2 weeks ago
I remember a code not working for me when I tried to use it on a clearance item. Some discounts don't stack or apply to already reduced prices. Is what you're buying already on sale?
5
B BargainHunter 2 weeks ago
Oh! Yes, I was trying to buy a jacket from their outlet section. That could be it! Thanks, Swati!
6
R RajeshK 2 weeks ago
Could also be an expiry date. Did you just sign up or was the email from a while ago?
1
B BargainHunter 2 weeks ago
Signed up today, so should be valid. Swati's point about clearance items makes sense though.
